How It Works
Jemzy is straightforward by design. Here's everything you need to know to get started — from your first download to your first connection.
1. Download and set up.
Jemzy is free to download on iOS and Android. When you create your account, you'll use your real name — first and last.
Jemzy isn't anonymous. Real names create a different kind of community — one where people are accountable for what they say, and where that accountability makes the space safer and more honest.
You'll set your location permissions so the app can show you what's nearby. Your location is only active while the app is open. We don't track you in the background.
You'll need: A smartphone running iOS 15+ or Android 10+, a valid email address, and your real name.
2. Explore the map.
When you open Jemzy, you see a map — your city, your neighborhood, your street. Scattered across it are Jems: markers showing where other people have left videos.
Each marker shows the category — food, nature, art, events, and more — how recent it is, and how far away it is. There are no view counts, no popularity rankings, and no algorithmic sorting. What you see is what's actually nearby.
Browse at your own pace. The map doesn't push anything toward you.
3. Drop a Jem.
Anywhere you are, you can drop a Jem. Tap the drop button, record up to 60 seconds, and choose a category. Your Jem appears on the map where you're standing.
A few things worth knowing:
Videos are unedited. No filters, no cuts, no production value required.
Your Jem is tied to a location. It can be watched by someone who walks to it, or by someone who uses Jem Coins to unlock it remotely.
You're sharing something about a place and why it matters to you.
4. Walk to unlock.
When you find a Jem you'd like to watch, walk within 100 feet of where it was dropped. It unlocks automatically and plays in full with a press of the play button.
This is the central idea behind Jemzy. Physical proximity changes how you experience something. When you walk to a Jem, you're at that place — not watching a video about it from somewhere else. That's a meaningful difference.
Can't get there? Jem Coins let you unlock any Jem remotely. You recieve 3 Jem Coins every 24 hours.
5. Connect with video replies.
Rather than simply a text comment section, Jemzy utilizes video replies. When a Jem resonates with you, you can respond with a short video of your own — a thought, a reaction, something you noticed in the same spot.
Video replies are more personal than text. You're a real person, in a real place, responding to something another real person shared. That's closer to a conversation than most platforms manage.
What we collect. What we don't.
We collect the location where each Jem is dropped, the time and date it was posted, a transcript of public videos so content can be searched, and engagement data to help you find content you'll value.
We don't build advertising profiles. We don't sell your data to third parties. We don't track your location when the app is closed.
Moderation is proactive. Content that is negative, harassing, or harmful is removed — not just flagged.
